Micro camcorder dubbed the 'world's smallest'
There's no shortage of "world's smallest camcorders," but Spy Gadget's Micro Camcorder is definitely one of the most diminutive that we've seen. Designed to actually slip inside an empty pack of gum, this device features a "one touch record button," captures video at a less-than-stellar 15fps, holds footage on a microSD card, and can be recharged via USB. Reportedly, users can capture up to 33-hours of low-res video on a 1GB card, and two hours of that can be captured on a single charge. 'Course, whether or not this all is worth the stiff $295 asking price is certainly debatable.

They should position the lens such that it sits behind a dark spot on the gum's packaging, to allow for an inconspicuous hole through which spy footage can be shot.

so.. you stick it in the stick of gum, and stand the gum up so it can actually record a specific area?
maybe its just small.. not a spycam at all. i mean.

How? with a small piece of duct tape, of course!

"Is that a camcorder in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" "Whoa, that IS a camcorder in your pocket!"

GumCam - $295. Putting away the neighborhood drug dealer - priceless.
djONE @ Sep 24th 2007 3:31PM
Umm actually it's illegal to use any video footage of anyone against them in court as evidence or otherwise (As is audio) unless there is one, a court order allowing for it or two, you tell the person they are being recorded before you record them. So not sure how that would work out in a neighborhood watch deal, but in my eyes it would be invasion of privacy unless one of the two above options were involved.

It is allowed if it's on the street in public eye I think. and if the target is particularly disliked by the ones with the audacity to bypass the law.
Lemmiwinks @ Sep 24th 2007 1:38PM
How is this better than a cameraphone?
John Doe @ Sep 24th 2007 5:55PM
Its not a phone.
0150r @ Sep 24th 2007 1:46PM
If they could get it up to 30fps with double the resolution shown on the sample video, it would be awesome as a helmet camera.
Phil Ringsmuth @ Sep 24th 2007 2:03PM
That promo video is actually quite a bit better than most in-store security cameras that I've seen over the years.
JC @ Sep 24th 2007 2:05PM
This could not have come at a better time. Now I don't have to stick my bulky Super 8 camera up womens' skirts on the escalator at the mall anymore.
Tim @ Sep 24th 2007 2:06PM
Seems foolish to offer 33 hours of video at 15fps on a device that has a 2 hour charge. You are plugging into USB to charge so you candownload the video at the same time. Why not go for the best video the charge time will allow? 2 hours of 30 fps or up to 5 hours of high res video with an external battery pack would have made this device more desireable.

I'm reminded of the joke by Will Dunst, "in the future camcorders will be the size of a postage stamp, but postage stamps will cost $50"

"No baby... I just like to have a pack of gum on the nightstand for- y'know- just in case I wanna chew some gum."
"Now, could you turn a little bit this way while you do that? Ahh... Yeah... That's it."
fondy44 @ Sep 25th 2007 9:39AM
Not sure that disguising one's spy cam as a pack of gum is such a great idea. Whenever I pull out a pack of gum, all of my coworkers instantly turn into mannerless, drooling bums. That would be an interesting situation.
"No, you can't have a piece"
"Because it's SPECIAL gum"
"No Bob, it's not that I don't think you're special"
seidath lawani @ Sep 29th 2007 7:21PM
that is awesome.how can i get it? and how much it coast?
