Coming from a guy who shoots Nikon semi-professionally (D200 bodies), the previous statement about the 20d/30d having poorer build quality than the D80 is ignorant. The 20/30d series both feature a magnesium skeleton with polycarbonate and most are marked "made in japan" (although some are marked Taiwan). The D70/d80 series both have plastic constructions and are not made in Japan.
However, it is really apples and oranges because those two lines of cameras are really in different tears: D80 competes with the Rebel XTi and the new 40D will try to compete with the D200.
