The biggest problems with the 10/20/30D line of dslrs has always been the atrocious build quality... the less expensive d70/80 line of Nikons are better built and the slightly more expensive D200/100 class are light years ahead.
Coming from a guy who shoots Nikon semi-professionally (D200 bodies), the previous statement about the 20d/30d having poorer build quality than the D80 is ignorant. The 20/30d series both feature a magnesium skeleton with polycarbonate and most are marked "made in japan" (although some are marked Taiwan). The D70/d80 series both have plastic constructions and are not made in Japan.
However, it is really apples and oranges because those two lines of cameras are really in different tears: D80 competes with the Rebel XTi and the new 40D will try to compete with the D200.
I've had my 10D since it was released, and have shot close to 20k images. The body has travelled around the world with me several times. I've used it in light drizzle, and it has never flinched.
