a) can it support SDHC cards or is the limit really just 2GB, then this would be that at lowest resolution (320*240) it could only store 2 hours of video
b) is the LCD switched off when the camera is on motion detection mode? Otherwise the battery will last only for 3 hours.
c) can you actually switch on the motion detection mode when the camera is on battery or is this a webcam feature?
If all of the above would work and if the motion detection feature would work outdoors then this would be a great and very serious tool for animal research.
