Kodak 1881 concept cam takes discreet snaps, is not discreet
Apparently designed so Flava Flav could secretly record his travels back in time, the "1881" concept designer Lindsey Pickett showed at a recent Kodak design exhibition is a bold new entry in the uber-competitive non-existent camera / locket space. The foldable cam takes snaps just by squeezing the case, or you can crack it open and line things up on the dual LCD screens. Pickett also tried to capture some of that old-school photo locket vibe by setting those the screens to auto-play the internal memory when opened, which'll keep you entertained during the frequent rest breaks you'll have to take while lugging this thing around on your neck. No specs to be had, since the 1881 is just a concept, but first Kodak and Pickett need to figure out how to build a camera smaller than a manhole cover.

Wow, that is so insanely lame.
Why is this on Engadget anyway? It's not really gadget news.. eh..

You seriously don't consider this a gadget.

Okay, it's a gadget, but it's the kind of gadget you find in the "hardware/electronics" section of your local grocery Store. Engadget is for informing us about the latest consumer electronics, not novelty items that aren't even real.

This Ain't Your Great, Great, Great Grandmother's Digital Camera. Every once in a while, you read an earnestly writen piece who's sublte humour is so delicately sublime that your laughter brings you to tears. (The last such article I read - though not gadget related - involved Daniel Radcliffe and some naked horse-eye stabbing.) This is definately the lastest. Nice job, Nilay.

I think I'm in love. Who wouldn't love this gadget? It's perfect size, you don't have to worry about it being too heavy around your neck or anything. and people totally wouldn't think you're a stalker wearing a camera.
and did I mention obsession? taking a sneak picture of your crush and view it every chance you can. Totally not creepy or anything at all.
yeah, what's next? Dora toy again?

Now if they were to make the case look like an old timey pocketwacth, and replace the locket chain with a watch chain and fob, THEN they'd definitely be on to something (I mean that thing is the PERFECT size for a pocketwatch camera... It would go along with the Pocketwatch PDA that this one guy on the steampunk forums is making).
