If you want more than 3x, you will have to look past the slim/compact designed cameras. There is a reason these thin cameras only have 3x zoom, it is due to their compact size. With that limitation, it is hard to get the glass in there to obtain more than 3x.
If I need zoom, I have a Nikon D50 and lenses to take care of that. However, it can be a pain to lug around sometimes, which is why I picked up a new point and shoot compact camera to fit in my pocket to bring with me everywhere.

ya, i realize its 3x because of the thinness. but i think, somehow in todays age, someone could work hard to overcome the 3x mark.
