Ah, the trusty old T-610/616.... just bought a replacement for my old one last week!
siriusfox @ Feb 8th 2007 10:19AM
Any chance of getting larger copys of these pictures? I'd really like to use the David Browning for my desktop, but it's way to small.
DKB @ Feb 8th 2007 11:45AM
Email me at dkb@davidkbrowning.com and I'll send you a larger version of the "Last Supper" picture that will work as wallpaper....
Glad ya dig the image.
Thanks
David

Congrats to all. It was a long time in the making and a great contest.
Thank you to Engadget & crew for hosting such a contest. It was a lot of fun!
SoulEaterW/Chicken @ Feb 8th 2007 10:33AM
I'd rather have a PS3 controller or bluethooth headset than the xbox 360 wireless headset. Take that fanboys!
Christopher @ Feb 8th 2007 10:41AM
Wait- that was photoshopped?
I thought it was crazy and inspired to kill a perfectly good cell phone for the pursuit of art, but now I just think that's lame.
I'll stick with my Black & White 35mm film and my SLRs, thank you very much!
Fakers.
Stephen @ Feb 8th 2007 11:04AM
Holy bologna! Wow! Good stinking job.. Juan more than deserves the Nikon D80 kit!
citykids @ Feb 8th 2007 11:13AM
I wonder how many cell phones did he ruin before he got the perfect?
F. Villa @ Feb 8th 2007 12:30PM
I like the photo because of its comedic effect. Also, your effort of gathering your colleagues and friends to do it is admirable. Would you mind sending me a copy, too, at badzny5@yahoo.com? Thanks.

Here's a link to the making of "The Last Supper" picture that my friend George Castro shot:

Great for a Mexican to win the contest!
C'mon, mobile phones are so cheap now... specially if they are subsidized by the companies as Telcel, Mexico's mobile monopoly...
Manuel @ Feb 8th 2007 1:05PM
I don´t get your point, who cares where is he from or if cellphones are subsidized or not? STFO its a PHOTO CONTEST.
Anthony Yim @ Feb 8th 2007 12:25PM
Wait, weren't there 4 runner up prizes?
pwfletcher @ Feb 8th 2007 12:35PM
YESSSSSSSSSS ... last place!
kendrick @ Feb 8th 2007 1:33PM
wasn't this image used in Layers magazine? But they didn't use a phone in it
Big Mike @ Feb 8th 2007 1:25PM
#1 Who cares if its photoshopped?
#2 Who cares if hes Mexican?
#3 Who cares how many phones he used?
Bottom line its a great picture and based on the votes he deserves the win. People need to not hate so much and give respect where respect is due!
nima @ Feb 8th 2007 1:42PM
The chalk-outlined IPOD should have had a sad-apple face on the screen or a low battery screen of death instead of whatever that is in the picture!
E @ Feb 8th 2007 2:15PM
Popularity /= good.
It just reinforces my suspicion that with all of the 'design' criticisms posted on this site, most (not all, some make valid points) of you wouldn't know good art or good design if it kicked you in the ass.
OK, ok... You're right I shouldn't hate, you get my respect... For appealing to the lowest common denominator, every artists dream!
/not hating, it's the truth

Just like voting for politicians, the fairest system is counting the votes. Unless you can come up with a better system, that is...

Saving waterlogged / soda spilled electronics isn't that difficult, I've done it many times myself. Just buy a bottle of 99% rubbing alcohol and submerge the device. The alcohol will absorb and displace the water and dissolve any gooey stuff like soda or juice. Then remove and let it dry. Alcohol evaporates much quicker than water so your gizmo should be up and running with about a day of drying.
Michael @ Feb 8th 2007 4:24PM
Hope he shares the prize with Reimar Gaertner...

oshean @ Feb 12th 2007 7:08AM
I have a dead wireless keyboard that was doused with soda and I am wondering if the alcohol will dissolve the residue. Have you had any experience and success with cleaning dried soda residue out of electronics?
tpp @ Feb 8th 2007 5:00PM
Reiman Gaertner my ass.
I suppose the last supper winner should share his with Jesus and Da Vinci's descendants, and the chalk image iPod with the local police department.
I dare you to find a truly original photo these days. I bet you a Reiman Gaertner poster I'll find an older photo of similar composition or subject with no trouble at all.
E @ Feb 8th 2007 4:57PM
This looks familiar too:

I wonder where I could have seen a similar concept?

Come now. I think >even you< can tell the difference between "inspiration" and "replication."
Nick @ Feb 9th 2007 12:00AM
Okay.. what about this one?

I look at it this way... According to the people here at Engadget, if something is white, rectangular or even worse, has a dial/round knob on it, it's an iPod ripoff.
Because, you know, Apple invented rectangles and rounded edges, white too.
I look forward to seeing "apple ripoff" applied to touchscreens as well, even though they've been around longer than the douche-bag emo retards posting it.
Yes, I am cranky and bored today.
Joseph @ Feb 8th 2007 8:15PM
i wonder if the results would have been the same if the rules were a little more strict.
I voted for that image thinking that it was not shopped, but that he risked the phone for a cool picture.
I never made the last supper connection from the thumbnail, when i saw the images that took 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I thought that they were a lot more powerful than their thumbnail let on.
Maybe next time we should have a preliminary election, and then a final election.
Fery @ Feb 8th 2007 10:54PM
Hi i have a question to all out there, i really liked Lucas Gravely photo (APPLE 5th. Av.)and would like to get in touch with him or any one that has some cool looking fotos, of the apple store, i work at a glass co. and would like to make a poster of the store for my cubicle err OFFICE, thanks.
konakrik4 @ Feb 9th 2007 1:18AM
what a travesty, so many other better pictures...
Wellcraft19 @ Feb 9th 2007 4:56AM
Wow, this could have been my wife. She took a swim with a T610 last summer when (supposedly) wading out to the boat. Phone soaked and DOA (not wife even though I throw a fit - it was MY phone).
Phone did eventually actually power up, but never started. Reminds me, when I have some time, I should pull it out of the drawer and try it again. Those SEMC phones never really die, they just move to the basement.
As for the photo, great work Juan Carlos! It is live, it is vibrant, but the most impressing is of course that this is just before the phone actually dies. See you're using TelCel as your carrier (or at least used to).
Anthony Yim @ Feb 11th 2007 3:27AM
Hey Ryan,
Aren't there suppose to be FOUR runner-up prizes?
"As you know, the D80 is the grand prize, but because we appreciate your kind patience in getting this contest together (well, that and your fine photography), we're offering up four prizes to the runners up, listed with the voting form after the break."
What happened to the forth prize?
