Sony's CyberShots: 10 megapixel DSC-N2 and 7.2 megapixel DSC-T50
If you've been craving that hot, 3-inches of touchtastic screen riding atop double-digit megapixels then check it pixel junkies, 'cause Sony's here to sate that need. The CyberShot DSC-N2 is just what we expected following those leaked images and specs: 10.1 megapixels from a tiny 1/1.7-inch CCD, 52MB of on-board memory, a massive 3-inch touch-screen LCD, and an all-too-familiar image-stabilized 3x optical zoom lens in a 6.6-ounce followup to the DSC-N1. The DSC-T30 also got a bump with the announcement of a new top-end T, the 7.2 megapixel DSC-T50 which ditches some of the mechanical buttons 'round back by introducing touch-sensitive control to the existing 3-inch LCD. This 4.6-ounce cam still maintains the same Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar 3x optical lens with image stabilization but drops the built-in flash memory by 2MB to 56MB. Get your Sony Style, pre-oder on starting tomorrow or wait for these to go retail in October at $450 for the champagne gold DSC-N2 and $500 for the DSC-T50 in your choice of silver, red, or black. Peep the DSC-N2 after the break.

Digital Camera Review says that the DCS-T50 has a 7.2 megapixel sensor, not an 8.2 megapixel sensor as your article states.

Sweet Jesus, that's huge! What would you do with a 10MP picture?!
RomanosDiogenis @ Sep 11th 2006 7:34AM
What will you do with the noise that the stupid 10mp sensor produces?

Thinking 1.7" sounded absolutely HUGE for a CCD (SLRs don't even go that big), I did a bit of research...
CCD sizes are specified in a slightly odd way, as a fraction, usually with a decimal fraction in the denominator. So the "1.7" mentioned should probably really be "1/1.7" (which is slightly bigger than half an inch).
BUT, that isn't even the actual size of the sensor either! A 1/1.8" sensor actually has a diagonal of just 9mm.

"massive 3-inch touch-screen LCD"
hmm, got me thinking about 6gen ipods.. maybee all these new cameras being released featuring touchscreens points towards ALOT of them being manufactured?

DPreview also says T50 is 7.2 MP camera..
if you had followed my tip ... ;-)

..and what a blurry picture of the t50, its killin my eyes!
KorruptioN @ Sep 11th 2006 8:23AM
1/1.7" is actually kinda big for cameras of this size.

when the t10 or whatever model was introduced about 3 weeks ago i posted that i don't understand why sony keeps dropping new t-series models that are essentially the same - they've been doing 3x optical, 2.8-3" screen, 6-7.2mp t-series for a while now. why the need to keep releasing them w/o any real updates and why the need to switch from the 30's to the single digits and now to the 50's? (t30, t33, t7, t9, etc.)
i wouldn't buy this camera for the simple reason that it only takes memory cards and by the time i get home from the store a new model will be intro'd

Thomas, Sorry the math doesn't add up. You can't have 52MB of onboard memory and drop it by 2MB for the stabilization and come up with 56MB.
From the link
http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1157947201.html
" It also has 58MB of internal memory."
Thomas Ricker @ Sep 11th 2006 10:52AM
The via and read sources each list different memory capacities - 56 and 58MB - I finally dug out the Sony (Japanese) press release which makes translates to:
"Built-in memory: Approximately 56MB (approximately 58MB*)
* Capacity is the numerical value which includes the administrative use file and the like when being 1,000,000 byte, it calculated 1MB."
Er, ok.

shouldn't the title of this post say "10 megapixel DSC-N2" instead of "DSC-N1"???

Help! I am looking into getting a new camera. So far this is my favorite when doing my research. However, I want to make sure it is Vista compatible, can anyone tell me if it is?
My current camera is not and it's a pain in the butt!
